Prenatal Massage Essentials: Achieving Balance, Relaxation, and Nervous System Harmony for a Better Birth

During pregnancy, your body undergoes significant changes, and maintaining balance both physically and emotionally becomes more important than ever. Prenatal massage offers a gentle yet powerful way to support this balance, helping you feel more comfortable and prepared for birth.

1 - Balance in the ribcage and pelvis - all bodies benefit from balance. From a place of intention and awareness of the pregnant body, balance is a primary goal of your prenatal massage. This greater balance in the ribcage and pelvis will help you feel better in your body, and encourage optimal positioning of your baby for birth.

2 - Nervous system regulation - we live in a high-stress high-demand and sensory overloaded world. Helping bring your nervous system into a rest-and-digest state during your prenatal massage allows for greater regulation long after your massage ends. When the time comes, labor progression is also supported by feelings of calm and safety from a nervous system that is not in chronic fight, flight, or freeze mode.

3 - Practiced relaxation - During a prenatal massage, we will address areas of tension in your body. This is an invitation to consciously relax these areas as your massage therapist applies gentle yet firm techniques to your muscles and fascia. This skill will serve you well in labor, as you may need to consciously let go of muscle tension as you birth your baby.

By focusing on aligning the ribcage and pelvis, regulating the nervous system, and practicing intentional relaxation, prenatal massage provides essential tools for a smoother pregnancy and a more calm, empowered labor experience.
